3. International implications of SHRP

Abstract

The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) of the United States was officially launched on April 1, 1987 following several years of preparation and financial negotiations. It is to date the largest, most comprehensive and coherent highway research program. It offers a unique opportunity for international cooperation. The present paper presents a non-American view of SHRP and its international implications, as well as thoughts regarding the international highway research community.
