Abstract

From Atlantic to Pacific, from Montreal to Mexico City, existing systems are expanding and new ones are coming on line as commuter rail continues to grow. Commuter rail has maintained its pace as the fastest growing segment of public mass transportation. The article looks at the followinng systems: New Haven; New Jersey Transit; Philadelphia (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority); Maryland Rail Commuter Service; Northern Virginia; Florida's Tri-County Commuter Rail Service; Chicago Metropolitan Rail; Dallas Area Rapid Transit; Southern California; San Francisco; Montreal; Toronto; and Mexico City.
