Abstract

This report focuses on the use of electronic transit fare payment methods, including the potential integration with other electronic benefit cards. It discusses institutional mechanisms required for implementation and presents a case study of a current transit smart card program. Technical and institutional issues encountered in implementing and operating the pilot project are summarized. The report also describes the potential and alternative approaches for implementation.
