Abstract

Australia has an unenviable record of road crash fatalities and injuries. The following paper reviews available road crash data to establish just what relative contribution is made to this record by rural local roads (ie, the roads for which delegates at this conference have major responsibility). The paper looks at what could be done to obtain better information about this class of road crash in Queensland, and what more might be done by local government engineers in an effort to reduce the road toll on these roads. The paper also discusses appropriate means of measuring and expressing road crash data (a).
