Abstract

As part of the railway section of the programme for investigating technologies for transport and traffic systems, the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology is assisting the construction of the approximately 23-km DB line between Rheine and Freren in South Emsland as a railway experimental facility. Using specially developed vehicles, speeds of up to 350 km/h will be run here. The tests are aimed at confirming and extending the theoretical work and the test-rig experiments. The object of the overall programme is to investigate the technical and economic limits of the wheel/rail system. The author describes the tasks, project organization and the special problems in planning and building the test facilities.
