Abstract
In this paper, the author presents a history of Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) from a national perspective. The author discusses early program activities (primarily Bureau of Public Roads initiatives and the Electronic Route Guidance System (ERGS)), the Mobility 2000 activities, and concludes with the present IVHS program.
