Abstract
Motor vehicle maintenance through inspection increases the operational lifetime of vehicles, their capacity and continuous working order, which is an imperative need in present-day road traffic. Motor vehicle maintenance operations performed by public transport organizations operating their own motor pools differ considerably in terms of approach and of organization, technology, staffing and job considerations, equipment, job quality, etc. They should accordingly be controlled by adequate regulations or recommendations for each motor vehicle type, number and operating conditions. Daily and preventive inspections are integral parts of regular motor vehicle maintenance. In spite of this, there are vehicles in inadequate working order on yugoslav roads. Considering that commercial motor vehicles have caused a large number of traffic accidents, particularly in 1979, with very severe consequences, A question arises: why is the number of traffic accidents still increasing in spite of the strictly prescribed and scheduled daily and preventive inspections?
