Abstract

The Green tiger prawn Penaeus semisulcatus \nde Haan is one of the commercially Important \nspecies of marine prawns in the southeast coast \nof India, particularly in the Gulf of Mannar. It is \nalso widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific \nregion extending to the Red Sea, South Africa and \nAustralia (Motoh, Southeast Asian Fish. Res. \nCenter, 1980). This species is the most dominant \none among various species of penaeid prawns \nlanded by mechanized trawlers at Tuticorin \nFishing Harbour significantly contributing to the \ncommercial fishery almost round the year in \nvarying intensities
