Abstract

【Objective】Breeding of high -quality and high -yield new rice varieties was studied to improve the rice yield and quality in Guangxi. 【Method】Using the systematic selection method for five generations in three years , the rice variety Yumeizhan was developed from the isolated plant of variety Fengmeizhan, which was introduced from Guangdong Province. 【Result】Yumeizhan showed excellent characteristics, such as high and stable yield, good grain quality, strong tillering ability, wide adaptability and so on. Its growth duration was 128 and 110 days at early and late duration stage, respectively. Yumeizhan was registered and certificated by Guangxi Committee for Crop Variety Registration in June , 2012. 【Conclusion】Yumeizhan, a new rice variety with promising prospect, is suitable for planting as early and late cropping in double-season rice planting regions of south and central Guangxi and the similar climatic regions of south China.
