Abstract
From a geotechnical point of view the design and construction of road and railway embankments involves the solution of problems relating to stability and settlement. This paper presents some of the methods available. They are divided into four groups: (1) Adaptation of the load from traffic and embankment to the soil properties; (2) Excavation and replacement of the soil; (3) Improvement of the strength and deformation properties, that is soil reinforcement; and (4) Excavation and construction of the foundation and the pavement at a lower level where the soil properties are more suitable. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 876615.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
