Abstract
This paper describes the results of a field test conducted to verify the function of a U-type Traffic Information Provision System which serves as an information source for a Vehicle Information and Communication System. The system mainly provides the following information: 1) link-travel time; 2) link traffic jam (length and grade); 3) travel time between major intersections; 4) traffic regulation; and 5) message to the drivers, especially for numbers 1 and 2 above. Since April 1996, the system has provided information through about 460 infrared beacons and its service area is expected to expand, with the installation of more infrared beacons, in the future.
