The paper illustrates the way in which NAASRA recommendations on the four major design criteria have changed over the years from 1955 to the current issue of the design policy (policy for geometric design of rural roads dated 1976. The criteria illustrated here are pavement width, shoulder width, sight distance and horizontal curvature (a).
