EXPERIENCES WITHIN THE INITIATION, INSTALLATION AND INTEGRATION OF TELEMATICS APPLICATIONS FOR CITY LOGISTICS AND FREIGHT CENTRES

Within the SURFF project, more than 20 different telematics applications were launched at 7 European locations in order to improve the freight flow. This gave the opportunity to collect wide experiences within the initiation, the installation and the integration of telematics applications. Beside technical obstacles, which usually occur at the integration of new components in a technological older environment, there have been first of all organisational, political, and market related hindrances which have been faced and which endangered the success of single subprojects. This paper starts with positive feed-back of users and will then summarise the problems encountered, the lessons learned, and the results of a SWOT analysis with respect to the project experiences. The ambitious goal of these reflections were to extract and to exploit as much useful information as possible. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
