Abstract
Roundabouts are often used as a measure to improve road safety. Yet there are relatively many accidents that happen on roundabouts or roundabouts are perceived as unsafe. The problem is often not in the guidelines for the design of a roundabout, but related to human behavior. Roundabouts are often designed as an independent part of the infrastructure, but for road users a roundabout is often only a small part of the way they have to travel. For designers logical and clear, but not for the road user. In What to do when there is a problem on roundabouts? 'existing roundabouts can be made safer by taking into account the behavior of road users.
