Abstract
Butt welds on rectangular and circular hollow sections -with and without controlled defects of various modes and sizes and of varying distribution - were judged according to the IIW-catalog for radiographs and then tested under static and fatigue load. The influence of defects of butt welds on the strength behaviour was examined. The knowledge obtained from the tests can be used for a definition of allowable stresses.
