Abstract
Traffic management entails making the best use of existing road space, and contributing to solving traffic safety problems, congestion problems and environmental problems. The road situations in the world, especially in urban areas, require that traffic management play a significant present and future role. The conventional traffic management measures such as traffic signal systems, traffic regulations and information systems have been improved and are expected to improve further. Research activities into a new traffic management measure called intelligent vehicle road systems (IVHS) are being vigorously pursued in many countries. IVHS improves road traffic performance by introducing a closer relationship between road facilities and vehicles. For the covering entry of this conference, see IRRD abstract number 843191.
