Abstract

The report covers 2501 accidents which occurred on stretches of the Norwegian main road network during the period 1971-1975. A total distance of 2665 km road distributed over 13 counties has been analysed, and over a distance of 2233 km access roads and accidents have been correlated. Also seasonal and weekly variations in the accident rates have been investigated, together with the influence of weather and visibility conditions. The influence of the turning direction when entering the main road is also analysed in relation to accident rates and the severity of the accident. Furthermore the influence of the distribution of access roads along the main road and the conditions at the access point are considered in relation to traffic density on the main road. (TRRL)
