Abstract

Speed has become a highly controversial subject. The public has encouraged the development of higher speed motor vehicles and highway facilities as a boon to transportation economy. But, the public is also concerned with highway safety which does not seem to go hand-in-hand with faster cars. This article looks at how vehicle speeds and safety vary widely in the opinion of drivers. Examined is the role of traffic regulations and traffic control devices in relationship with speed and safety.
