Abstract

This brief article updates developments in the investigation of the July 14, 1997 collapse of the pedestrian bridge during the Maccabiah Games in Israel. Blame for the collapse, which resulted in the death of two Australian athletes, is focusing on the civil engineer who designed the bridge and the construction company that built it. Israeli officials noted that neither firm is known for work on bridges. The contractors argue that they built the bridge in line with the engineer's design specifications and that other factors may have contributed to the collapse.
