Abstract
Service plays an increasingly important role in public transport. It is not technically difficult to integrate various radio communication systems, methods for determining a vehicle's location and computer-aided centralised control systems which different operators may employ. The data flow concept is of special importance: it ensures that all important data on location and delays are compiled at one place. A local control centre then has the task of implementing a programme of action which was previously agreed among the interested parties. Concepts developed for four important interchange points in the Rhein-Main area of Germany will be put into practice in 1998/99. Connections will then be guaranteed not only between services of the same operator but also among urban buses, regional buses and trains. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
