Abstract
This paper examines the accuracy of a bridge Weigh-in-Motion system for the determination of truck weights and the sensitivity of such a system to many factors. The factors influencing accuracy which are considered include axle number and spacing, distribution of axle loads, transverse offset of trucks from lane centre line and the frequency at which strains are recorded, i.e. the scanning rate. In addition, the implications for accuracy of longitudinal variations in truck position are considered. A calibration truck axle configuration and load distribution is recommended which keeps errors to a minimum. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 871202.
