Abstract

This article describes a rapid bridge replacement project in Epping, New Hampshire. The project was the state's first site to incorporate fast-track construction methods. The goal was to develop a concept that could be used to replace a typical medium-span bridge using a spread footing, cantilever-style abutment substructure. The new structure consists of a 115-foot long adjacent box beam superstructure supported by an all precast concrete substructure. The precast concrete components allowed the project, which normally would have taken 4 to 6 months to construct, to be completed in just 8 days.
