Abstract
This chapter describes how the trucking industry is vibrant and active. The demands for movement of freight keep rising and, because of increasingly global manufacturing and distributions systems, they will continue to rise. Like all other industries, it is being impacted by emerging technologies and innovations in operating procedures. The past two decades have seen enormous productivity increases that are not likely to show in the years ahead.
