Abstract

Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) is the statutory adviser to UK Government on transport and mobility needs of ALL disabled people. The presentation will cover: (1) background, function and composition of DPTAC as an example of cooperation between disabled and non-disabled people in government and the transport industries; (2) defining numbers, transport and mobility needs of elderly and disabled people in UK; (3) defining access for all; (4) DPTAC’s advisory role on legislation, policies, regulations, standards and facilities for elderly and disabled pedestrians, passengers and drivers; (5) DPTAC’s proactive role in developing standards for transport operators; (6) DPTAC specification for low floor buses; and (7) DPTAC’s proactive role on education and training issues.
