Abstract

Crystals of Ba3La2(BO3)4 have been synthesized by the HTSG method and the structure of the compound was described. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pnma with the following parameters: a = 7.731(2), b = 17.043(1), c = 9.019(3) (A。), V = 1188.2(1) (A。)3, Ba3La2B4O12, Mr = 925.08, Z = 4, Dc = 5.171 g/cm3, λ(MoKα) = 0.71073 (A。), μ = 16.888 mm-1, F(000) = 1592, final R = 0.0736 and wR = 0.1853 for 2948 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I). The La atom connects Ba(1) atom through a μ4-O(O4) atom from a BO3 group and O(2)-B(1)-O(3) bond from another BO3 group, while it connects Ba(2) atom through a μ4-O(O(4)) atom and a μ3-O(6A) atom from two BO3 groups.
