Abstract

Improvements in highways invariably results in considerable savings in travel time to passengers, to vehicle operators and to consigners of commodities carried by road transport. As such, travel time savings are an important component of road user benefits and are accepted as a quantifiable factor in economic analysis of highway schemes. In view of its gorwing importance, the Central Road Research Institute undertook an investigation on the quantification of travel time savings under Indian conditions. This work was carried out as part of the road user cost study, a research project which has been implemented by the Institute under the joint sponsorship of the World Bank and the government of India. The paper presents the results of the investigation. (Author/TRRL)
