Abstract

This conference keynote address discusses the innovation in transportation that is evident in the State of Washington under the leadership of Duane Berentson, then focuses on the following three topics: (1) the challenge presented by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA); (2) the progress in ISTEA legislation and, in particular, with regard to the National Highway System; and (3) what needs to be done, or the immediate challenges to the transportation community.
