Abstract

Transportation, the movement of goods and people, has shaped the growth of every civilization. This paper is concerned with the modernization of the highway systems. The focus of this paper is the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 along with a brief historical setting that details the Federal-Aid Road Act passed by Congress in 1916. The paper discusses the interstate system, provisions of the Act, the economic benefits, studies of federal-state agencies, and the use of federal-aid funds.
