Abstract
With the development of the electronic computer, we can now analyse the stress of structural members by the finite element method for easy use in the design stage. In designing a hull structure, we can increase the strength by shaping structural members better. Especially for the portion of stress concentration the shape of the member must be chosen carefully. Hitherto, a photoelastic test was applied for analysis of stress concentration, but now the finite element method provides better shapes of structural members. The authors show 4 examples of stress concentration of hull structural members analysed by the finite element method, proving the usefulness of this method.
