Abstract
For eight years new kinds of road surfaces have been developed in France: very thin bituminous concrete, ultra-thin bituminous concrete, and porous asphalts. The latter materials have very different winter behaviour than do the first two ones. Global examination of behaviour of pavements is needed, specifically: a semi-theoretical analysis of the thermohydric mechanisms involved; a comparative and experimental study between the porous asphalts and the dense bituminous concretes; and a strategic reflection to improve the winter serviceability of the porous asphalts.
