Abstract
A REVIEW OF ANALYTICAL METHODS AND GENERAL COMPUTER PROGRAMS DEVELOPED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA FOR THE ANALYSIS OF BOX GIRDER BRIDGES IS PRESENTED. SEVERAL SOLUTIONS BASED ON TWO GENERAL METHODS, THE DIRECT STIFFNESS HARMONIC ANALYSIS AND THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD, ARE DESCRIBED. THESE SOLUTIONS MAY BE USED TO ANALYSE MULTI-CELL BOX GIRDER BRIDGES WHICH ARE STRAIGHT, SKEW, CURVED, OR OF ARIBITRARY GENERAL GEOMETRY AND UNDER GENERAL LOADING. NUMERICAL RESULTS FROM THREE EXAMPLES INVOLVING A STRAIGHT TWO SPAN CONTINUOUS BRIDGE, A SINGLE SPAN SKEW BRIDGE, AND A SINGLE SPAN CURVED BRIDGE ARE GIVEN. /AUTHOR/
