Abstract
To provide and to preserve sustainable mobility in metropolitan areas, strategic policies need to be realised by a bundle of measures. MOBINET aims to further develop and in particular to implement and demonstrate adaptive control methods in the greater Munich area, Germany from mid-2001. The respective control methods will be embedded in a distributed and modular system architecture and a strategic component will guarantee an integrated approach of traffic control according to overall traffic policies. Requirements in the design of the system architecture include modularity, robustness, evolutionarity, inter-operability and integrated data management. The overall road traffic control and monitoring system is described. NetzInfo will provide driver information on the motorways outside Munich. Sektor-Steuerung is an important link between the regional motorways and the inner city road network, and is designed to give information on alternative routes. Ring-Steuerung is designed to enhance traffic flow on the Middle Ring Road. Quartier-Steuerung is designed for traffic light control in complex urban road networks.
