Abstract
Some experiments and analysis were carried out on ship hydrodynamic forces acting on block type ships moving obliquely. The elements composing the hydrodynamic forces showed larger different characteristics from those of an ordinary fine ship, especially the drag to lift ratio. Therefore It is considered that sharp corner sections at both ends of the bow and stern may cause drag inducement in the motion. In order to investigate the causes, several ship models with transformed bow and stern shapes were examined on ship hydrodynamic forces by means of an oblique towing test. The characteristics of the hydrodynamic forces showed a great change in variation due to the transformation on the stern shape of the model.
