Abstract
The Benkelman Beam deflection has been used in Kenya for evaluation of the structural strength of pavements, pavement rehabilitation, and overlay design since 1974. The objective of this paper is to appraise the current pavement evaluation methods using the Benkelman Beam with respect to the Dynaflect. The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer was used mainly for determining the in-situ strength of the layers. Experience has shown that the Benkelman Beam Method is slow in data collection and is operator dependent. This study aims at providing new pavement design using the Dynaflect.
