Abstract
The process of forecasting travel choices is usually viewed as a sequential procedure that consists of applying the models related to trip generation, trip distribution, mode choice and route choice. In a combined model of travel choice, the tripmaker's choices regarding originn-destination, mode and route are considered as part of a single decision making process with the objective of user cost minimization as the main criterion underlying the choice process. In this paper, a combined model which considers a simultaneous choice of origin-destination and mode, followed by route, is considered. The model formulation is discussed, followed by the derivation of its policy optimality conditions. The results of varying some user costs and other policy variables on some significant travel characteristics are then discussed.
