TRANSIT AND LAND USE PLANNING IN SAN DIEGO

Abstract
This paper gives an overview of a unique collaboration between San Diego's Metropolitan Transit Development Board (MTDB) and the City of San Diego in working towards establishing a long-range vision whereby public transportation and land use planning work are intrinsically linked. MTDB Transit First strategy and the City of San Diego Villages strategy are described, along with the planning process used to ensure consistency between them. The paper concludes with some examples already underway towards implementing these 2 strategies and the challenges lying ahead.
