Abstract
This paper is primarily concerned with transferring seakeeping analysis from the research office to the design office. After presenting an overview of seakeeping research and related optimisation schemes we present and apply a particular approach to addressing the general design problem of identifying better alternative hull forms. This task is undertaken with the aim of improving seakeeping characteristics whilst being sensitive to the qualitative changes in added and calm water resistance and the need to satisfy IMO stability conditions. A trawler and general cargo vessel are used to illustrate the proposed methodology.
