Abstract
THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE MEASURED SKID RESISTANCE OF A TREAD COMPOUND IS INFLUENCED BY TEST CONDITIONS IS INVESTIGATED. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS IS EMPLOYED TO DETERMINE THE INTER-RELATION OF VEHICLE SPEED, ROAD SURFACE-TEXTURE, TREAD COMPOUND, AND THE ACTUAL CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THE FRICTION IS OBTAINED, I.E. MAXIMUM OR LOCKED WHEEL BRAKING. REFERENCE IS MADE TO THE ACTION OF THE WATER FILM, THE TEMPERATURE EFFECT AND THE TYPES OF SKID, AND AN APPENDIX DESCRIBES THE CALCULATION OF REGRESSION COEFFICIENTS. /RRL/
