LEADING FROM THE CENTRE

This article outlines the services provided by the newly built South Wales Traffic Management Centre, based near Cardiff. It was built to manage the South Wales main road network and will house the Welsh government's information service for motorway and main road users, Traffic Wales. This collects traffic data on congestion, incidents, highway works and planned events from a variety of sources: and produces services via its website as travel alerts, and through a telephone helpline, traffic condition information screens and variable message signs. The eventual vision for Traffic Wales is a bilingual information point covering all transport modes with links to complementary websites, encouraging industrial investment and tourism. Integrated to this would be the public transport information service traveline Cymru which already provides real-time passenger information at key bus stops.
