Reading Spaces : Narrative Discourse in Art Exhibitions

Reading Spaces – Narrative Dialogue in Art Exhibitions examines the mediation and interpretation of exhibitions through the hypothesis that shows are platforms for narratives. The study of mediation is built on the conception that a curator communicates an exhibition by creating and telling the story of the show. The study of interpretation builds on the notion that each visitor constructs her/his own narrative from her/his interpretation of the exhibition.An examination of the communication of exhibitions brings forth the dialogue created between the artwork, curator and visitor in exhibitions. The examination is conducted through exhibition theory, semiotics and narrative theory, coupled with analyses of individual exhibitions.
