Abstract
In this paper an approach to modelling the behaviour of individuals is briefly discussed and a probabilistic choice model developed from basic assumptions of human behaviour. The model is applied in a binary modal choice context to a data set on commuter trips in the Sydney metropolitan area. The major objective is to show that disaggregate probabilistic models provide the most realistic behavioural base from which to investigate the various travel choice processes underlying the demand for travel modes in particular and the demand for travel in general.
