Abstract

The SuperOutrigger has a long slender monohull, with the payload supported high above the hull, and is stabilized by an outrigger far abeam of the main hull. The vessel combines three essential characteristics offering good seakeeping qualities, economy and speed. It is, in addition, an extremely simple craft that does not depend upon computers or other high-tech equipment in order to achieve its intended performance. The design and performance of the SuperOutrigger are described and artists' renderings are shown of its potential applications as a vehicular ferry, a crew/work boat, a passenger ferry, a helicopter carrier and a fishing boat.
