Abstract

A surge of offshore activity for new and expanding operations in the North Sea has made 1975 an important year for the gas-turbine industry in delivering, installing, and operating the major power source for producing oil and gas from this treacherous sea. Phillips Petroleum Co.'s Ekofisk field in the Norwegian sector accounts for the major concentration for gas-turbine power, totaling over 925,000 hp. In the British sector, 26 Rolls-Royce Avon gas generators amounting to over 500,000 hp are currently on order or installed for offshore application in existing southern gas fields, the Claymore oil field farther north, and in the Brent oil system. Although much of the developing activity includes equipment described in the last Gas Turbine World North Sea report, new orders have increased the total gas-turbine power scheduled for offshore North Sea activity tp 1,254,630 hp plus 655,955 kW from 256 sets, and to 123,880 hp plus 22,900 kW from 31 sets onshore.
