Abstract
The American Transportation Research Institute's (ATRI's) study, “Evaluating the Impact of Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Disparities on Carrier Safety Performance,” compared the enforcement and safety performance of the lower 48 states across various safety and operational metrics, such as, crashes, roadside inspections, and violations. ATRI researchers compiled a “Top 10” and “Bottom 10” list for each given metric. This document looks at the performance of the Top 10 states and the methodology used to identify the top performing states.
