PARKING AND THE INNER CITY COLLEGE

This article describes the parking problems associated with the location of a higher education institution in the city centre of Southampton, UK. Although not many students use cars, many of those that do are taking up on-street parking places. Student accommodation is located in low-cost older residential areas with little parking provision; however, many students live close enough not to need cars and competition for space may be associated more with staff. It is suggested that light transit, park and ride and cycle routes may be important measures for the future.
