APPLICATION OF EXTENDED BAYESIAN METHOD TO PAVEMENT LAYER MODULUS BACKCALCULATION

Abstract

In order to increase the reliability of backcalculation moduli of pavement layers, a new backcalculation program has been developed by using Extended Bayesian Method (EBM). To evaluate the practical use of this program, the pavement layer moduli of a section of an asphalt pavement and a section of a concrete pavement are backcalculated by EBM in this paper, where the deflection basins of the two pavements are both measured for 50 times by different FWDs at the same locations in 1991. The variation coefficients of the backcalculated moduli are discussed to approve the practicability of backcalculation results. The results are compared with the results of another program which used the Minimum Square Method. It can be considered that the backcalculation using EBM are suitable for the evaluation of pavement capacity. For the covering abstract of the proceedings, see IRRD 490713.
