Abstract

Transportation officials and the public have identified a need for detailed road condition and weather information. The goals and objectives of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Advanced Rural Transportation Systems (ARTS) Strategic Plan clearly identifies the areas for improvement in the transportation system. The results from user needs surveys and travel statistics compliment the goals stated in the ARTS Strategic Plan. FORETELL is a public-private partnership that will provide detailed road condition and weather information to state DOTs, state operations personnel, business organizations, schools and the general public. This information will assist in winter road maintenance operations, travel routing decisions and reductions in weather related accidents and deaths. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
