Abstract

Many inner and middle ring municipalities have concerns for the viability of their business and industrial areas, particularly related to a lack of adequate car parking. This paper outlines a method to analyse the basis for provision of car parking, and identifies and assesses alternative means of physically and financially providing car parking. The methodology, based on a recent study in the Municipality of Marrickville, Sydney, uses a computerised land use-parking inventory to rank areas according to parking need, identify sites and assess alternative means of obtaining funding for development of identified sites.
