Abstract
As ship speeds becomes faster, the configuration has changed to maintain a high seakeeping performance in waves. A hydro-wing system can support the whole or a part of the weight of a ship. It is necessary for the comfort of passengers to maintain the constant vertical force acting on the hydro-wing under wave conditions. The characteristics of the hydro-wing with a flap in waves was investigated with model experiments and theoretical considerations. Attention was paid to reduce the fluctuation of the vertical force acting on the hydro-wing in waves by using the flap. It was confirmed that the fluctuation of vertical forces in waves can deal with quasi-steady assumption under the usual conditions. A method to control the vertical force acting on hydro-wing was investigated by using forecasting attack angle to wind, the angle was estimated with wave profile at the head of the hydro-wing.
