Abstract

The traffic volume on our roads increases from year to year. A result of that situation is that accidents within the area of road works on motorways have serious effects. When looking at accidents with road barriers installed to block a lane in the case of road works, these accidents are in most cases a result of fatigue and carelessness of the driver. Especially accidents caused by heavy vehicles lead to injured and killed road repair personnel. In case of a crash of a heavy vehicle with a road barrier a split second is vital. The Road Work Protection System is used to warn personnel with an acoustic signal in the case of an approaching heavy vehicle on the blocked lane. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
